I stand by my statement above that we needed a 'wakeup call' so that American citizens could better see how good they have it and how quickly it might turn horrible if we were not sensitive to world realities.
That being said, if I could have been the one to choose what kind of WUC we received (and of course I could not possibly), it would not have been quite so horrendous as the attack from the 19 hijackers (16 Saudis) on Sep 11, 2001.
Hell, Oklahoma City was a big enough wakeup call as far as I was concerned and the death toll was about 6% of 9/11.
As for the fence I supposedly walk on, I am for Americans using our military to defend their turf and for taking smart self-defensive steps.
I am against using our military to invade sovereign countries, regardless of how we (and I) might view their current government leaders as abhorent and despotic.
I understand that you and some others view the invasion of Iraq as qualifying for my first point of view. Therefore your support of the current military campaign is understandable.
But please understand that I do NOT view the current military operations in the Mideast as serving our self-defensive interests. So therefore you might better understand why I call for us to remove our forces.
I have no stake in what the Muslim extremists do over there, nor do I have a stake in what the supposed Iraqi 'moderates' do over there.
It's clear that the biggest danger either group poses is to themselves and those in close proximity, given that they do not possess weaponry that can be deployed more than a few miles in distance.
I'd love to see them come to a peaceful consensus. But if they insist on warring against each other and practicing pre-20th century religion and social policies, I want them to do it among their own and leave us out of it.
Oh wait, they didn't ask us to be involved in the first place, did they? So therefore we don't need their indulgence in letting our troops just pull their happy asses out of there and come home where their (our troops) valuable resources and manpower can be put to better use.
I invite you to reconsider the Bushism "You're either for us or against us". This axiom implies that the Bushies cannot possibly be wrong about anything they're doing.
If you DO believe that, then I can understand why my point of view is frustrating, yeah even 'treasonous'.
